Pascale Moynot took the shorter route to the women's semi-finals
as she defeated Sara Vargas in straight sets, 2-0
The 42-year old former French had one open frame and one double
in the first game, which was good enough to defeat Sara Vargas,
190-182. Pascale had some lucky breaks including Brooklyn strikes
and took full advantage of two open frames from her 25-year-old
opponent in the third and seventh frame to win the first game,
190-182.
The 25-year-old from Bogota started the second game with three
consecutive strikes then opened in the fourth frame. Pascale started with a double and a spare and
connected for three more strikes to lead by 10 in the sixth frame.
She gave the advantage back when she opened twice in the seventh
and ninth frame.
Finishing first, Sara needed a double to shut out the French but
left the 2-4-5 combination on her first ball. When she picked
up the 5-pin only, Pascale needed a mark in her tenth frame. PBA
legend Dick Weber, who is here in Riga to serve as a TV color
commentator, commented: "All she neeeds is to stand behind
the foulline and stay out of the gutter." Pascale did as
recommended and got a nine-count and spared the 5-pin to win 194-185.
